She is American and comes from a Mexican-American background. From the time she was a kid, she's had a keen desire to participate in activities. Gerina began to play golf at the age of 15 years old. Gerina went to Goddard High School. She won at the New Mexico State Golf Tournament at the age of high school. Also, she played volleyball at the level of state. In the year 2003 she was enrolled in the University of Texas. Her senior year was a success. she took home the top prize in each tournament in which she played in. In her college career, she was crowned Conference USA individual champion player of the year as well as UTEP Female Athlete Of The Year.
